About

We’re so glad to have you join the team! This guide is meant to provide team specific information to help you get off to a great and productive start.

OUR MISSION

Mythoscopy.

First part “mytho” from the Greek root “muthos” to denote “traditional tales”, which for us includes “traditional thought” and “intellectual status quo”. The second part “scopy” from the Greek root “skopein” to mean “to look at”.

So, simply put:

Mythoscopy: n. Action whose whole-sole aim and scope is to look at traditional tales, and sometimes tell others what you saw.

WHO WE ARE?

This started as a solo project. Trying to use perspective exercises on established fictions of a culture, called “mythology” by some (ok all!), and see if looking into the stylistic elements and tropes we can get insights on not just these works of art but about the culture themselves.

Soon, contributors were added (and are being added as we speak) with roles as Editors, Authors, Contributors and what not! An important part of “viewing” is “perspective”, and it is better when there are more (and if possible better) “eyes” to do that.

Also, and more importantly, we needed to test a hypothesis that “a group of people is less lazy than a single person”, i.e “laziness as a percentage is multiplicative when combined, hence reduces when there are more terms”. The contra-hypothesis is “a group of people is much much more lazy than a single person”, i.e. “laziness as a percentage is additive when combined, hence increases when there are more terms”. Fingers crossed?

It is called Project Randomness as of now, as the clear motive is absent currently, just an overarching motif of randomness.

MAILING LIST

We don’t have it yet, as we are cheapskates and won’t pay for a premium web-site. You don’t contact us, (other than through comments… which are moderated, btw) WE contact you!

In the meantime we leave you with an erudite relook at a few well-known words used as place-fillers… and what they actually mean (to show, how very smart we are!)

  • Dolorem ipsum: “pain in and of itself”
  • Dolor sit amet: “the pain may be carrots?”
  • Consectetuer adipiscing elit: gibberish??… ok… ok… I didn’t think it through… ABORT… ABORT! @kyabakteho Haalp!

GLOSSARY OF TERMS

In Anti-Alphabetical Order…

R-Story: A Story of Victory; of one person against another, most probably unrelated by blood/marriage to the first person. Set in the Indian subcontinent. Has attained religious overtones.

M-Story: Another Story of Victory; of a few men against a few others, most probably related by blood/marriage to the first group. Set in the Indian subcontinent, quite a few years after the R-Story. Is in the process of attaining religious overtones

B-Story: Many Stories of Victories; of one person or many against whoever they are fighting against or whatever. Short for Bollywood Story, and the archive of moving pictures extraordinaire created from a city in Western India, called Mumbai, and based on the word “Hollywood”, just substituting the “H” with “B”, as … erm… the city was called by another name earlier and it started that way! Set (mostly) in the Indian subcontinent. Has not yet started the process of religious overtones attainment, but not too far away from that.
